At Rose Haven Counseling we understand the impact that trauma has on your life and in your relationships. The triggers, fears, depression, and anger that you experience after going through trauma can cause you to react with fight or flight responses to seemingly normal situations. If you find yourself dealing with fight or flight responses regularly there is most likely some unaddressed trauma from your past. Our counselor is trained in understanding trauma and how it impacts your life and relationships. She is here to help you find peace from the effects of trauma so you can be you again.
The symptoms of trauma persist because trauma is stored in our bodies, not our minds. During traumatic experiences, the logical thinking part of our brain turns off to allow our systems to focus on staying safe. The part of our brain that focuses on emotion and the senses goes into high alert and stores all that information to keep us safe in the future. Every time that our bodies detect sense cues resembling those stored in memory the body reacts with the same fight or flight response and we can feel like we are in that place again.
Since trauma is stored in the body, it must be healed through the mind-body connection. Accessing traumatic memories while moving your body, in a place that feels safe, and with someone trustworthy allows the body to release the connection between sense, memory, and the present. One of the most proficient, research-proven methods for releasing trauma stored in the body is through EMDR (Eye Movement, Desensitization, and Reprocessing). Our therapist is trained in EMDR and is ready to provide a haven where you can process and release your stuck trauma.
