Anxiety is our ever-vigilant companion who can always find the disaster ahead and all around us. It can nag us with feelings of panic. It can lead us on a constant path of hypervigilance. It can also create barriers in our lives and relationships. When anxiety is constantly taking the driver's seat we can feel powerless in living our life the way we want, and unable to connect with those around us in meaningful ways.
Anxiety functions in our lives to keep us safe. It develops in childhood and is re-triggered by current life situations that our body feels are unsafe or threatening. The trouble is that the ways that anxiety tries to keep us safe are not helpful as adults, so anxiety tends to cause more problems than it does to help.
Here at Rose Haven Counseling, we know that your anxiety has been a valid way of coping in the past. We respect the job it is trying to do, but also know that it is time to move forward. We help you to process past triggers as needed and find ways of separating the past from today so you can feel empowered in your life again.
