Men struggle with mental health like women do but how they express it and the needs they have to deal with it are very different. Our society still stigmatizes men talking about mental health struggles. The need to be strong, independent, dependable, and capable leaves men alone in much of their suffering. While most women want their men to be vulnerable, they usually struggle with holding space for their partner's deep or painful emotions. When carrying the weight of the world becomes too much and the depression, irritation, anger, or anxiety takes over men need a place where they can feel listened to, understood, and supported.
Men are leaders, protectors, providers, and fixers. They build the world and provide safety and security for women and children. This weight can be heavy to carry, especially when they feel overworked, unappreciated, unfulfilled, or undervalued. When feeling overwhelmed without acknowledgment for the sacrifice and care they put into their work, or holding fear for the possibility of being incapable of fulfilling responsibilities, can leave men irritable, depressed, or anxious.
At Rose Haven Counseling we appreciate men, the unique challenges you face, and the value and strength you provide in our world. We understand it is a privilege to hold space for the struggles you face. We provide a space to allow you to face the shadows from your past that haunt you today. We honor your sacrifices and needs and work with you to build skills or troubleshoot solutions to the roadblocks in your life.
